Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay about the course that impressed me most in college. You should state the reasons and write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

English is one of the required courses in almost all colleges and universities across the country. While quite a number of students think they are forced to take it——merely for College English Test, I study it for some other purposes other than the examination itself. I maintain that English is the course that has impressed me most in college.

I cling to the idea that the practical value of English is a strong motivator. In the first place, English adds greatly to convenience and comfort of my life. For instance, as nearly all information on the Internet and over half the world’s technical and scientific periodicals are in English, a good command of English will facilitate my work. In the second place, mastering English also means chances and opportunities. With growing foreign investment in China, English, as the language of international business, plays a vital role in one’s career.

Over years, it is the prospect of the usefulness of English course that inspires me to study it hard.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay based on the picture below. You should start you essay with a brief description of the picture and then comment on teamwork. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

As is vividly depicted in the picture, wearing the same red T-shirt and yellow work card, four colleagues are standing in their office with a computer and a red cup on a desk. The implication of the cartoon is that teamwork is vital for achieving success in harsh reality.

Simple as it is, what the picture conveys to us is thought-provoking. With the development of economy and society, competition is becoming increasingly fierce. It is impossible for anyone to finish a task all by himself. Hence, people in mounting numbers put great emphasis on teamwork. In fact, it has been universally acknowledged that the ability of teamwork is the most essential qualification that anyone who wants to achieve success should possess.

Accordingly, it is imperative for us to take some measures to enhance the sense of teamwork in our society. Only in this way can we obtain success and only in this way can our world become more harmonious for people to live in.

Directions: In this section, you are asked to write an essay based on the following diagram. Describe the diagram and analyze the possible causes. You should write at least 120 words.

 工程硕士:Master of Engineering

The diagram above clearly illustrates that dramatic elevation has occurred in the recruitment of Master of Engineering (ME) in China during the past seven years. In 1998, the number was at a low of only about 2,500. Surprisingly, it reached to more than 35,000 in 2004, within no more than seven years.

Some driving factors that contribute to the above-mentioned changes may be summarized as follows. First and foremost, China has become particularly active in manufacturing, which has led to an increased demand of qualified engineers. In addition, the development of the job market on the whole cannot keep pace with the expansion of college graduates, which has obliged a large number of students to stay on campus for another three years to get better prepared for their careers.

Hence, it is necessary for us to take effective measures to ensure this situation doesn’t get out of hand, and encourage students to choose majors for which theoretical knowledge and practical skills will be demanded in the job market. (168 words)

Directions:or this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the saying “Tradition lives because young people come along who catch its romance and add new glories to it.” You can give one example or two to illustrate your point of view. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

In recent decades, some people have become increasingly concerned that China’s cultural heritage could become marginalized or even disappear entirely. In my opinion, however, the traditional Chinese culture is not only certain to survive, but, in fact, is destined to thrive and prosper.
One factor that has already begun to contribute to the preservation of China’s traditional culture is its commercialization. For instance, since China’s opening-up to the outside world, China’s acrobatic, theatrical and opera troupes have emerged as burgeoning tourist industries. Another reason that the future of China’s ancient culture can be considered “safe” is the active efforts to protect it on the part of the Chinese government. As an illustration, traditional arts, such as calligraphy, dance and music, are often taught as a mandatory element of young children’s education, ensuring that they grow up with an awareness of their cultural roots. Finally, the culture of China is buttressed and supported by widespread and growing international interest in China and its traditions.
As a result of successful commercialization efforts, unwavering government support and growing interest overseas, the future of China’ traditional culture looks brighter and more secure than ever before. (191 words)

Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the saying “In today’s world, where college population grows rapidly, a Master’s degree become essential if I wish to compete for a rewarding job.” You can cite one example or two to illustrate your point of view. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

There are many reasons for my decision to study for postgraduate programs, one of which is the value of a master’s degree. It ensures me a secure future in a society in which college graduates in mounting numbers failed to be employed.
First, there is a recognition that an candidate with a master’s degree will have an competitive advantage over those with only a bachelor’s degree. Five years ago when college population accounted for only 30 percent of the people of the same age, it was easy for a college graduate to get a good job in any field. But now things are quite different. Second, the higher education you have, the higher salary you will receive. Just look at some big companies which compete against each other to recruit skilled personnel.
Briefly speaking, more knowledge means more opportunities. More years of academic studies will help equip you with more knowledge and skills. Then if conditions change, you can slip with comparative ease from one field into another, avoiding the pain of waking up to find yourself out of a job.

Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the saying “The most successful persons may not be the smartest ones.” You can cite one example or two to illustrate your point of view. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

According to a survey conducted among a group of people who were in the same college 10 years ago, those whose grade-point average was in the middle fifty percent, all become rich or managers of different fields, while not a single young man of the upper ten percent becomes an executive or boss.
One ingredient, among other things, is good interpersonal skills. With a wide circle of friends who can be trusted to provide information and resources, your chances of success are much higher. On the contrary, if you are competent in profession, but have difficulty in getting along with your colleagues and even your boss, you can hardly survive the corporation. Another component is the ability to express oneself. In today’s world, what really counts is the ability to express oneself rather than technical competence or professional knowledge. The larger the organization of which you are an employee, and the fiercer the competition, the more important it will be that you know how to convey your thoughts and convince others of your ideas.
To sum up, according to my observation, academic brightness is only part of the story, the other factors are very important.

Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on the picture below. You should focus on the importance of reading. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

As is vividly shown in the picture above, sitting on a sofa comfortably, a woman is reading an interesting book and chatting with her husband. Obviously, what the portrayal conveys is that utmost significance should be attached to reading books.

First and foremost, a good book is our faithful friend. It can increase our contentment when we are cheerful and happy, and lessen our pain when we are sad or lonely. Furthermore, reading extensively can also offer us a wide range of experiences. In reading we may join tourists marveling at incredible power of Niagara Falls, mingle with the happy throngs strolling in the Paris boulevards and experience the bitterness or joy of people in different lands and in different times. Few of us can travel far from home or live long over one hundred, but all of us can live many lives through the pages of books.

Though with the advent of TV, mobile phones and the Internet, books are no longer read as extensively as they once were, nothing can replace the role that reading plays in our lives.

Directions:Write an essay based on the following chart in your writing, you should

1)interpret the chart, and

2)give your comments

You should write about 150 words.

The bar chart above illustrates the various reasons that college students find finding jobs increasingly difficult. From the perspective of employers, lack of practical experience, overly high expectations and financial crisis are in the front ranks, accounting for 57.1%, 42.3% and 36.9% respectively.

For college graduates, the situation of the job market is increasingly grim. To begin with, with social competition becoming keener, college graduates should be well-equipped with practical experience which suits the demands of society. Otherwise, they will find no foothold for themselves. Unfortunately, the majority of the new graduates lack adequate practical ability and operational skills. Meanwhile, another reason lies in graduates’ attitude towards employment. A large number of graduates put earnings above anything else. They aim at well-paid positions in foreign corporations or big banks and have a salary expectation of more than RMB 5,000 per month. Obviously, if they have realistic expectations of how much they should earn in the beginning of their careers, it wouldn’t be difficult for them to get a job.

With expanding enrollment in universities, seeking a job for graduates will become more and more difficult. Among many solutions, having a correct attitude toward job-seeking is an extremely crucial one.
